ETIM standard

The ETIM standard (ETIM Technical Information Model) is an international product data classification standard used especially for the consistent description of HVAC, electrical, and construction products. The ETIM standard has been developed to harmonize the description and classification of technical product information.

ETIM aims to:

  • facilitate the exchange of product data between manufacturers, wholesalers, designers, and retailers
  • ensure that technical product information is presented in a standardized, machine-readable format
  • improve data quality and reduce errors throughout the supply chain.

ETIM works as a classification model as follows:

  • Each product is assigned its own ETIM class in the format EC123456. The class name is linked to the generic product type, for example kitchen faucet, washbasin, or ball valve.
  • Each ETIM class contains a set of attributes such as power, voltage, and material. These attributes are then linked with product-specific technical values.
  • The attributes have standardized names, codes, and values that are consistent across different countries and languages.

The standard is widely used worldwide, especially in Europe. It is developed and maintained through the international association ETIM International.

In Finland, the ETIM standard is managed by ETIM Finland, which are responsible for maintaining classifications, managing national translations, and representing Finland within the international ETIM organization.

LVI-INFO is responsible for the national translations for HVAC and plumbing products.
